I was looking for something tonight and clicked a link to a page on Whitedust Security’s news site, Whitedust.net. When I clicked on the link I got a page with only this: 14 August 2007 - 23:58 GMT With the industry and those in it so seemingly hostile to Whitedust, and pure apathy from anyone who thinks otherwise. [...]SHARETHIS.addEntry({ title: "Whitedust.net called it quits?", url: "http://www.infosecpodcast.com/2007/08/whitedustnet-called-it-quits/" });

I experienced first hand the IPS hype cycle working for a vendor, from early commercial products in 2003 to more mainstream adoption in 2006. My NAC vendor experience was shorter but I still was there for the big hype late last year and early this year. Was there a hype for Data Leak Prevention [...]SHARETHIS.addEntry({ title: "Is Data Leak Prevention the next “big thing” in security?", url: "http://www.infosecpodcast.com/2007/08/is-data-leak-prevention-the-next-big-thing-in-security/" });

I saw this article on Network World that talks about Illinois’ PKI program and what steps they are taking to keep it moving forward. As someone who worked in the PKI space for a while it is interesting to see PKI still in action, and moving forward. Public Key Cryptography is a great technology that [...]SHARETHIS.addEntry({ title: "Illinois PKI still going…", url: "http://www.infosecpodcast.com/2007/08/illinois-pki-still-going/" });

I read today that KisMAC, the wireless sniffer for Mac’s, is no longer being developed in Germany. The reason behind this is apparently some changes in German law the prohibits the exporting of security software. The home page does talk about the project moving to the Netherlands to avoid such legal issues. –Chris Technorati Tags: kismac, [...]SHARETHIS.addEntry({ title: "KisMAC stops development due to new German laws", url: "http://www.infosecpodcast.com/2007/08/kismac-stops-development-due-to-new-german-laws/" });

I am not sure how I missed this before but Cisco has entered into an agreement to OEM Great Bay Software’s Beacon product. Under the Cisco label this will be known as the Cisco NAC Profiler. Their appliance does a great job of idnetifying all endpoints that are not EAP enabled, i.e. those that cant [...]SHARETHIS.addEntry({ title: "Cisco OEM’s Great Bay Software’s Beacon", url: "http://www.infosecpodcast.com/2007/08/cisco-oems-great-bay-softwares-beacon/" });

I read a very interesting article in Mass High Tech on properly sizing your funding when going for VC / Angel money. It was written by Justin Perreault from Commonwealth Ventures. I am pretty sure I submitted a plan to them when I was trying to start my own venture. I never heard anything back, [...]SHARETHIS.addEntry({ title: "Properly sizing your VC funding", url: "http://www.infosecpodcast.com/2007/07/properly-sizing-your-vc-funding/" });

I remember last year someone tried to sell a Microsoft flaw (I think it was Microsoft?) on eBay. The auction was quickly taken down citing eBay’s terms of use / service violation. Last week WabiSabiLabi opened its doors as an online auction house for vulnerabilities. I took a look today and there a several vulnerabilities [...]SHARETHIS.addEntry({ title: "Auction Site for Vulnerabilities", url: "http://www.infosecpodcast.com/2007/07/auction-site-for-vulnerabilities/" });

My friend Steve pointed this out to me www.reuters.com/article/mergersNews/idUSN0927963720070709 The deal is slated to close end of Q3 and apparently Postini will stand as a subsidiary. Congrats to the Postini crew. I wonder what multiple of their forward 12 revenue that is. –Chris Technorati Tags: Postini, Google, Acquisition SHARETHIS.addEntry({ title: "Google acquires Postini for $625 million", url: "http://www.infosecpodcast.com/2007/07/google-acquires-postini-for-625-million/" });
