Massachusetts State Seal

I found this little news item this morning in my feeds. Apparently a Mass resident enters mass.gov/rmv into a search engine and clicks on a link under the Sponsored Link. That brings them to a site asking for $10 to conduct business on the State’s web site. The user pays the $10 and is redirected to the normal Mass RMV web site.

The site in question is Download-forms-DMV_DOT_com which appears to be down. WHOIS lists it as registered via Tucows with an IP in Massachusetts, I actually expected China or Ukraine. Whoever they are it seems they have spent a lot of time setting up link farms and the like. A quick search shows that site linked to from other suspicious sites like:

ca-dmv_DOT_com
dmvcalif_DOT_com
georgiadriverslicense_DOT_com
njredcross_DOT_com

Those domains are of course also for sale.
